Helicopter Toys

Spencer and I recently joined the Central Indiana Wood Workers.  http://www.ciww.org/  The toy project of the month is a helicopter.  Here is the start of  the toys.   The pine we have is from our friend Scott.   He was going to throw it away after his sound boxes were done.  I have glued pieces together over Christmas to make my nephew some puzzles.   Here it is glued up in three's - nine total pieces.  We'll double them tomorrow so that the thickness becomes 1 1/2".

Wood glued up, templates, and the first helicopter body.

Christmas Nutcracker

Here is Spencer's Christmas nutcracker.  He made this piece for a friend to give to her sister as a present.  It was one of the first commissioned pieces he has done for money.  He had a hard time parting with it.  So did I.  It turned out really nice.

New Pens

Here are some of the latest pen creations.

Bolt action pen with Zebra wood

Coffee and Cream acrylic blank
First time turning a composite pen.  Turned out OK.  Some chips here and there, however not bad for a first attempt.

Pens

Just a few of the pen's that I have made.  Pen bodies are scraps of wood from the canoe and other projects.

Pen blank on the mandrel.  This piece of cherry has a nice grain pattern.

Cherry from a friends tree - black titanium components.

Mahogany from the canoe - gold components.

Wooden base for my apple peeler/slicer/corer
So I built this wooden contraption because the suction cup was useless.  This clamps right to the counter, the sink catches the peels and the core.

Thrown away

Digging through a drawer this morning I came across a name tag that was made for a church function.  The name on the tag was a guy that couldn't attend.  I was about to throw it away, but thought I'll recycle the magnet and back for another project.  He just bought me coffee at Starbucks.  Wild how things happen.

No more breathing the fine dust.

Jet dust collector

This dust collector sat in the trailer waiting to be installed.  Our last project, and elevated dog bowl stand, created lots of fine dust.  Spencer took the filtration system out of the trailer where we proceeded to trip on it for the next week.  Last night we finally got it installed.
